Surrounded by Music
As a music major, I am often surrounded by music. Actually, almost all of the time. This week, however, I spent an even larger portion of my time involved with music, including a few performances. It has been quite the week:
On Tuesday, I performed the third movement of Mendelssohn’s violin concerto with the UE Symphony Orchestra at its fall concert. As a winner of the Vukovich Concerto Competition this past spring, held for UE music majors each year, I was awarded this great opportunity. After several months of preparation, I had a blast performing in front of many family and friends.
The next day, November 13, happened to be my birthday. :) I have never received so many facebook notifications in one day! The combination of concert congratulations and happy birthdays exploded my notifications. I had an awesome day, filled with friends, family, and sugar. And a Sweeney Todd dress rehearsal.
With my dessert at Los Bravos!
On Friday, UE’s production of Sweeney Todd opened! I’m in the pit orchestra, and it’s tons of fun. Playing Mendelssohn with a symphony orchestra and Sondheim in the “pit” (we’re actually on the stage) varies quite a bit, but both are so fun to perform!
Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Berlioz, Sondheim, and birthday cake (and ice cream and cookies), all in one week. So much music and sugar. I love it.
