The Best Major on Campus

I know I've mentioned it before, but here it is again: I'm an athletic training student on the Pre-PT track. I may be a little bit biased, but I firmly believe I'm in the best major that UE offers. But instead of just telling you that and hoping you believe it, now I'll tell you why I'm in the best major on campus.

1. We get to help people. As an undergrad AT student, we work to keep our Division 1 athletes healthy, while helping to rehab them if they happen to get hurt. We get to their practices an hour before they do, and leave at least an hour after they do, just to make sure they are ready for practice and that they get any treatments they need after.

After receiving a DPT degree, we'll get to help many more people to recover from injuries, surgeries, and whatever else may be ailing them. I can't think of anything more rewarding than helping someone become healthy after some sort of injury.

2. The athletic training students are a like a big, happy family. We spend hours on hours with each other, taking the same classes and then going to practices. We learn to trust each other, and become incredibly close. The sophomore AT students are some of my best friends on campus, and I'm incredibly thankful for them. It's nice to know that there are always people around that I can trust and talk to about anything.

3. Not a lot of people are willing to do what we do. We essentially have a 20+ hour a week job, on top of a full slate of classes, on top of whatever else we happen to be involved in. There were many days this past semester where I woke up at before 6 a.m., went to a practice, had a full day of classes, then went back for more athletic training duties until dinner time. Then I would try to get whatever homework I had done, play whatever intramural sport I had that night, go to bed, and do it all again the next day. I'm in no way complaining, because I love what I do. But there is a reason that each year there are about 30 athletic training freshmen starting the program, and by the time they get to be sophomores there are about 10 left. We work incredibly hard behind the scenes of our Division 1 athletics, making sure that our athletes are healthy and prepared when it's their time to shine. We don't get a lot of attention or credit for what we do, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

Those are just a few of the many reasons why being an Athletic Training student is the best thing you can be at the University of Evansville. We work hard, we stick together, and we love what we do.

This is just a part of my AT family here at UE. So thankful for all of you!
